(Sotomayor Only)
(It is recommended students follow the program of study sequence level 1-4 as outlined by TEA.)
Level 1: Principles of Applied Engineering #8700
This course provides an overview of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Working on design teams, students will use multiple computer hardware and software applications to conduct research, design and create projects, and present ideas related to biotechnology, electronics, robotics, and automation. Students will use appropriate tools and demonstrate safe work habits.
SEM: 2 CR: 1
Level 2: AC/DC Electronics - Renewable Energy #8744
(Freshman who completed Principles of Applied Engineering in the 8th grade are APPROVED to enroll in this LEVEL 2 course in the 9th grade)
This course provides an in-depth look into AC/DC Electronics focusing on the basics of electricity principles of alternating current/direct current (AC/DC) circuits. Students will demonstrate knowledge and applications of circuits, electronic measurement, and electronic implementation as it relates to renewable energy. Additionally, students will explore career opportunities, employer expectations, and educational needs in the electronic renewable energy industry.
PR: TBD
SEM: 2 CR: 1
Level 3: Solid State Electronics - Renewable Energy #8745
Level 3: Solid State Electronics- Renewable Energy ADV #8745ADV (2028+ Graduates ONLY)
This course provides an overview of Solid State Electronics of advanced circuits, electrical measurement, and electrical implementation used in the electronics and computer industries with a focus in renewable energy. This course will review the application of engineering principles and technical skills to troubleshoot, repair, and modify electronic components, equipment, and power electronic systems in a project-based environment. Additionally, students will explore career opportunities, employer expectations, and educational needs in the electronics industry.
PR: AC/DC Electronics
SEM: 2 CR: 1
Level 4: Practicum in Energy #8727
The Practicum in Energy course gives students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom in a real-world setting designed to prepare students for occupation in the oil and gas, refinery and renewable natural resources industries. In this course, students will learn how to communicate in the field and work safely in a variety of situations and environments common in the energy occupations. Students will also learn about the energy balance, the distribution of power, the technology used in the field and the regulations and environmental impact of the industry.
