STAAR/End of Course (EOC) Guidance for NISD Students, Parents, Counselors, and Teachers
State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness
โ Students entering 9th grade in 2011-2012 and beyond must take the End of Course (EOC) tests for the courses in which they are enrolled. This includes middle school students taking Algebra I.
EOCs Subject Areas
- English I
- English II
- Algebra I
- Biology
- U.S. History
EOC Student Performance Levels
I. Masters Grade Level
II. Meets Grade Level
III. Approaches Grade Level
IV. Did not meet Grade Level
EOC Re-takes
โ Retake tests will be administered three times a year:
- End of fall semester
- End of spring semester
- Summer
โ The student must retake an EOC test that does not meet Approaches Grade Level.
Accelerated Instruction
โ Provided for any student who fails an EOC test.
โ Provided at each high school to meet studentsโ needs.
EOC Courses Taken in Middle School
โ Middle school students are required to take the EOC for the high school course in which they are enrolled.
(Algebra I).
Student Transfers
โ Student transfers include students who have transferred to NISD from:
- Home schools
- Out-of-district schools
- Out-of-state schools
- Out-of country schools
โ Student transfers must take EOC tests for the courses in which they are enrolled for each core subject area.

โ Commit to making the highest 6/9 weeksโ grade possible.

โ Re-take EOC tests As Soon As Possible.
โ Communicate: Have ongoing conversations with your counselor, parents, and teachers.
Parent/Guardian Action Plan
โ Stay informed about graduation requirements.
โ Learn the grading policies and how to apply them to your childโs grades.
โ Use Parent Connection to keep track of your childโs grades and EOC test scores.
โ Encourage your child to excel in all courses and attend class every day.
โ Communicate: Have ongoing conversations with your child, your childโs counselor, teachers, and academic dean.
