For 45 years, the Walter Gerlach Livestock Show and Sale has been a Northside ISD tradition that has quietly raised nearly $16 million in college scholarships for students. This year’s event will again draw hundreds of students and livestock bidders with 823 entries.
Wondering how to pay for college? Need help filling out financial aid forms? The District’s first Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Night will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Northside Activity Center, 7001 Culebra Road.
January is designated School Board Recognition Month in Texas, and Northside ISD is joining other districts across the state to gratefully acknowledge the invaluable contributions that elected Board of Trustees make to their communities.

In 2017, Northside ISD hit an all-time high in enrollment, added more than 650 new teachers, opened two new schools, and more than 6,700 students received diplomas in 12 commencement ceremonies. The Class of 2017 earned more than $127 million in college scholarships and 46,018 hours of college credit.

“Who is patient?” asked Warren High School culinary arts teacher Dawn Hoyack. “They will be the ones most successful at making crepes.” The question was posed to a group of Club LT students from Jordan Middle School as they gathered in the Warren kitchen for a lesson on crepe-making.

And, a group of middle school students from Neff MS gathered in the Holmes HS kitchen for a lesson in making eggs.
“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...” More accurately, it was a chilly Friday morning in December in a classroom on the Warren High School campus. The Force was strong as the school came together to throw a surprise 18th birthday celebration student Abel Soto will never forget. Lightsabers included.
NISD will hold its tenth annual Winter (Dance) Spectacular on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Brennan High School. The event is part of the Fine Arts Holiday Music Series.
“This is Northside” features opening night festivities of the NISD Bowling League, the presentation of a $100,000 ImpactSA Grant to Construction Careers Academy, and the 36th annual “Officers in Blue” event at Glass ES.
Hundreds of fine arts students will be featured in a variety of holiday concerts and performances at elementary, middle, and high school campuses throughout Northside ISD.
University Health System is offering a convenient way for high school students to stay up-to-date with their immunizations, receive a flu shot, and prepare for college vaccination requirements. They will dispatch a mobile clinic to NISD high schools in the coming months.
“This is Northside” provides an in-depth introduction to the namesake of Kallison Elementary School. Nathan Kallison was a path-breaking innovative rancher and agriculturist on the 2,700-acre land he owned that is now part of Northside ISD and Government Canyon State Natural Area.

Northside ISD students and staff recognize the importance and significance of the selfless contributions of our veterans. There were Veterans Day celebrations and recognition ceremonies at schools throughout NISD where parents, grandparents, siblings, and employees who are veterans were saluted. These are highlights from the events at some Northside schools and departments.
John Marshall Harlan served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1877 to 1911. A Kentuckian by birth, Harlan had the nickname “The Great Dissenter” because he was the only justice to vote against the outcome of Plessy v Ferguson in 1896 and other cases that solidified the legal standing of segregation until the high court and Congress began to dissolve those laws in the 1950s and 1960s.
