Health Insurance
Northside ISD offers employees a choice of health benefit plans insured by United Healthcare (UHC).
Employees who have other health insurance and do not wish to participate in an NISD-sponsored health plan can choose the no-medical option and will be provided a choice of $50,000 or $80,000 life insurance at no premium.
Dental Insurance
Northside employees may choose a PPO or an HMO dental plan through Humana Dental.
Vision Insurance
A VSP Vision plan is available to all regular NISD benefit-eligible employees. Benefits include coverage for eye exams, frames, lenses, and contacts.
Supplemental Cancer Insurance
The Northside medical insurance options all provide coverage for medical expenses incurred as a result of cancer. However, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer can present additional financial hardship for employees and their families. For this reason, Northside makes available supplemental cancer coverage through MetLife.
Supplemental Critical Illness Insurance
The Supplemental Critical Illness Insurance, offered through The Standard Insurance, recognizes that an individual and their family will incur a number of out of pocket cost when treating a critical illness such as heart attack, stroke, cancer or other covered illness.
Supplemental Life Insurance
All Northside UHC medical plans include $5,000 basic life insurance coverage for the employee. Employees who chose a “No medical/Life Insurance Only” option are provided either $50,000 or $80,000 life insurance at no cost. Employees who chose the $80,000 coverage option assume tax liability for the imputed value of $30,000 life insurance coverage. Recognizing employees need to provide security for family members in the event of death of a family member, Northside makes available supplemental life insurance for employee, spouse and children through Standard Life Insurance Company.
Disability Insurance
Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance is available through The Standard Insurance Company for purchase by employees. This insurance provides the employee with a supplemental source of income should the employee be unable to work due to a non-occupational illness or injury.
Legal Insurance
Legalease with LEGALGUARD is an Employee benefit plan to protect the legal rights and financial security for employees and their families and includes identity theft protection.
Northside ISD offers all employees the opportunity to pay for health premiums and certain medical expenses with tax-free income through our Section 125 Cafeteria Plan. By electing to participate in the Cafeteria Plan, premiums for any medical, dental or vision premiums, and the premium for up to $50,000 life insurance, will be payroll deducted before computation of federal income tax. This results in a tax savings to the employee.
Employees may also elect to have a pre-tax payroll deduction deposited into a Health Flexible Spending Account (HFSA) to receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket eligible expenses (e.g., deductibles, lab fees, prescription drugs etc.)
Employees enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) may elect a Health Savings Account (HSA) or the Health FSA. Like the Health FSA, payroll deductions for the HSA are taken pre-tax. Unlike the Health FSA, funds in a HSA accumulate from year to year.
A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is also available under the Cafeteria Plan.
Northside ISD has established a Health and Wellness Committee to provide advice and assistance to NISD employees regarding matters of insurance, wellness and other issues related to benefits for Northside employees. Members of the committee are selected from each campus and central office departments, and serve as communication ambassadors.
The mission of this program is to promote healthy lifestyles among all employees and their families and thereby reduce medical costs utilization, promote intelligent benefit consumerism and improve quality of life and productivity.
