First

In first grade, we strive to promote independence for our young learners. We aim to build a strong foundation in academics and social emotional learning.

A major focus in first grade is developing decoding and comprehension skills, as our goal is to progress through seven reading levels throughout the school year. We also encourage student writing development with genre studies, which include personal narrative, letter writing, poetry, informational, and opinion writing. By the end of the year, students will be able to write a grammatically correct and cohesive composition.

In first grade math, students establish a strong basis for mathematical principles, including addition and subtraction to 20, comparing and ordering numbers to 120, place value to 120, measurement, graphing, time, money, data analysis, and geometry.
