PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Families,

I hope youโ€™re all doing well and enjoying the beautiful fall season. As we move deeper into the school year, I want to take a moment to highlight two important topics: student attendance and our upcoming Red Ribbon Week.

Student Attendance
Consistent attendance is crucial for academic success. When students attend school regularly, they can better keep up with their studies, participate in class activities, and stay connected with their peers. Letโ€™s continue working together to ensure that students are present and on time daily. If your child is going to be absent, please notify the school office as soon as possible.

Red Ribbon Week
Next week, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign promoting healthy and drug-free lifestyles. Throughout the week, students will participate in various themed activities and discussions about making positive choices. Each day will have a special dress-up theme, and we encourage everyone to join in and show their commitment to living drug-free.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students.

Interim Testing (10/30, 10/31)

On October 30 and 31, all students on campus will be taking the RLA Interim Assessment in their English Language Arts class. While this test is not for a grade, it helps teachers make decisions about what students need to be successful readers and writers.
Parents, we appreciate your help in getting students to school on time. Students need their charged school device and charger on campus for this test.

Esports Practice

Esports parents and students! Our first practice will be held on Tuesday 9/24 in B218. Practice will be after school from 4pm-5pm. If your child wants to bring their own Nintendo Switch to practice, they can drop it off in B218 in the morning. Any students still interested in Esports can sign up, but tryouts have passed. They can still participate in practices for the Spring Qualifiers for Mario Kart 8. If you have any questions, you can email abbygale.acevedo@nisd.net or jennifer.gerry@nisd.net.

Book Club Collab with Counseling

This week the Rayburn Book Battle Royale Book Club and the Counseling Department collaborated together to incorporate Positive Thinking into the Book Clubโ€™s check progress session. Our discussion included what brings them joy even on a bad day and turning a negative situation into a positive one by choosing joy. Students were able to decorate their own Choose Joy bookmark. The next Book Club meeting will be held October 30th where students should have completed reading their first novel and they will be selecting their 2nd novel.

Attendance Matters

Thank you for your continued support in your child's education. It is important to emphasize the significance of regular attendance. When a student is unable to attend due to illness or other valid reasons, providing a doctor's note is essential. Health-related absences for students who are present for part of the day require a doctor's note. These absences will not count against your child's overall attendance record. Partial-day absences, including late arrivals, are considered a full-day absence. Arriving late to school and missing the first period still counts as an absence. Attendance is crucial for student success. Regular attendance helps students stay on track academically and develop important life skills.
