Summer Reading

Summer Reading

ATTENTION ADVANCED READING/ ENGLISH STUDENTS

Congratulations to your child for choosing to participate in the Northside Independent School District Adv. ELA Rawlinson course. An important part of this academic program is summer reading, which offers an opportunity for enrichment in reading and writing.
Students will need to read one book (fiction or nonfiction). If your student is not in an Advanced ELA class, they are welcome and encouraged to participate in the Summer Reading activity as well. Below are links to access lists of book titles to help your child decide on a book. Students MAY NOT select a picture book, or a book that they have read, or a book that was taught in their previous ELA classes. Summer reading novels need to be read by the end of August. They will be given three weeks to work on their assignment after returning to school.

We are excited to see what great books our students will be selecting to read over the summer. When students return to school this fall, they will be given a menu board and they will be selecting one activity to complete with their summer reading book. Students are responsible for obtaining a copy of the book they choose.

Here is the Northside ISD Middle School Approved Novel List:

If you are having trouble selecting a book, popular novel lists and authors are on the next page of this ELA Summer Reading letter. You may contact your child’s ELA teacher if you have any questions. In the meantime, congratulations to your child for choosing Adv ELA. I wish them happy reading!

Respectfully,
