May 2014 Newsletter

Greetings Trailblazers! Wow, can you believe we only have five more weeks of school? These last few weeks will be busy here at Ott with learning, special events on campus, and our end of the year ceremonies. We look forward to all great things to come!
The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders completed STAAR testing and we are very proud of all of our students for shining through this season of standardized testing. This time of the year could be very emotional and stressful for some students. Parents, your strong support during this time provided your child with the confidence and positive attitude they needed to make it through. Thank you for always assisting in your child’s education, we truly appreciate the partnership!
In light of recent violent threats to area schools Ott elementary will continue to be secured daily for the safety of our campus. All doors will remain locked with the exception of the side front door, please only use this door when entering and exiting the building. Please also remember all visitors must report to the office upon entering the building for a Visitor’s badge, and be prepared to show a valid I.D. Door access will be limited between 2:30 p.m. and for the duration of dismissal, and then secured at 3:10 p.m. Parents, please remind your child not to forget needed items to complete nightly homework as they will not have an opportunity to re-enter the building after 3:10 p.m. Learning Tree and ECC parents will continue to check-out their children through the back cafeteria door. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s support! Safety is always a priority!
On May 10th, the $648.34 million Northside School Bond 2014 proposal will go before voters. Please visit the NISD bond website for more information about the bond and for a detailed list of proposed projects. Early voting continues at Luna M.S. until May 6th. We hope you will exercise your right to vote!
We are so very thrilled to announce that our PTA Executive Board has been awarded by the NISD PTA Council “PTA of the YEAR”! Our Board received this recognition at the NISD PTA Council meeting on May 1st. They have continuously done an amazing job this year and certainly deserve this honor! We love you PTA! Thanks for everything you do!
We are currently registering our Trailblazers for the 2014-2015 academic year. Please make sure you have returned your child’s pre-registration materials. Failure to do so may put your child at-risk of having to attend another school if Ott were to cap in that grade level.
This week is Staff Appreciation Week, please don’t forget to say “thank you” to the individual(s) who work closely with your child to ensure success, and who assist in making Ott elementary a fantastic place to be! We have an amazing staff and each person is uniquely responsible for our campus success. We couldn’t be wonderful without them!
I personally want to thank our Ott community for a remarkable academic year! Our school is an extraordinary partnership of students, staff, parents, and our local community. I can’t thank you enough for your continuous commitment and support this year! Enjoy the last few weeks of school and I look forward to working with you next school year!
Have a fantastic month and enjoy your summer days!
