The Northside Education Foundation (NEF) ends its Annual Pledge Drive on Dec.1 with an exciting change for the campaign. Donors can now us their mobile phones to donate using a credit or debit card by texting WIZARDNEF to 41444.
Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved the 2017 tax roll; approved facilities items including playground upgrades at 19 elementary schools; recognized two teachers and one principal for their recent awards; and appointed campus administrators including two elementary principals.

Northside ISD students and staff recognize the importance and significance of the selfless contributions of our veterans. There were Veterans Day celebrations and recognition ceremonies at schools throughout NISD where parents, grandparents, siblings, and employees who are veterans were saluted. These are highlights from the events at some Northside schools and departments.
John Marshall Harlan served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1877 to 1911. A Kentuckian by birth, Harlan had the nickname “The Great Dissenter” because he was the only justice to vote against the outcome of Plessy v Ferguson in 1896 and other cases that solidified the legal standing of segregation until the high court and Congress began to dissolve those laws in the 1950s and 1960s.
Northside ISD students continue to excel and receive numerous honors and awards. Below are students who have been named National Merit Semifinalists, Commended Scholars, and scholar finalists in the National Hispanic Recognition Program.
Alamodome management today confirmed graduation dates for Northside ISD high schools. NISD will hold 11 graduations in June 2018, ten of which are held at the Alamodome. The graduation for Health Careers High School will be held at the Northside Sports Gym.
This is Northside features an international parade at Colonies North Elementary School and a visit by a special children’s author at Lieck Elementary School.
Five Northside ISD PTAs have been named 2017-2019 National PTA Schools of Excellence. Beard, Murnin, Leon Springs, and Scarborough elementary schools and Neff Middle School are among 143 schools from across the country to receive this special designation and are the only schools in San Antonio to receive it.

The Northside Learning Tree After School Enrichment Program is seeking outgoing, energetic, and positive role models to fill approximately 100 part-time Youth Leader Instructor positions. The NISD Special Education Program is hosting its annual Community Resource Fair for families of students with disabilities on Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Northside Activity Center, 7001 Culebra Road.
Friends of Northside Libraries (FONL) is hosting “An Evening with the Authors” on Friday, Nov. 10 from 6-9 pm at Harlan HS, 14350 Culebra Road. The event is described as being compared to musical chairs with authors or speed dating with authors.

The annual NISD College Night will be held Monday, Oct. 30 from 6-8:30 p.m. drawing 140 colleges and universities from across the nation. Thousands of NISD students are expected to attend the event which will be held in the Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Texas at San Antonio on the Loop 1604 campus.
Students at Briscoe MS received a close-up, first-hand civics lesson when their campus custodians took the oath of allegiance to become U.S. citizens. The school held a reception to honor the pair, and students in U.S. History classes joined in celebration as a way to learn more about the citizenship process.
