Northside ISD Trustees approved a compensation package for the 2023-2024 school year that includes a three percent midpoint pay increase for all staff. Classroom teachers would see a $2,000 increase as well as other employee groups on the 23-24 teacher hiring schedule.
In addition, Trustees also approved a one-time retention payment to employees hired on or before Sept. 1, 2023. This one-time payment will be paid using Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds and is intended to help retain existing employees and recruit new hires. Payment amounts would be differentiated by employee categories with most employees receiving $1,200. With the District experiencing the most critical teacher shortages in the areas of special education and bilingual education, these classroom teaching assignments would receive a higher retention payment of $2,500.
“Our employees are the heart of this organization,” said Dr. John Craft. “ We value their work and wanted to make sure we could increase compensation for them in the new school year. We remain hopeful and will continue to advocate to state legislators that funding be allocated to further improve employee compensation.”
This compensation package increases the general fund expenditure budget by approximately $25 million. Since 2019, Northside has increased employee compensation by more than $148 million dollars in efforts to fairly compensate employees and stay competitive in the job market.
