Celebrating its 29th year, the Northside Education Foundation (NEF) recognized seven outstanding NISD graduates as Pillars of Character at its annual gala. These seven graduates include a general, a professional athlete, a non-profit CEO, a data analyst, a paramedic, a wellness coordinator, and an Assistant Chief.
Almost 600 business partners, community members, and educators attended the event, which is expected to raise more than $160,000. Through various programs, NEF raises funds for the Foundation's Grants Program, which awarded over $370,000 in grants to faculty and staff last school year.
Each year, Pillars are selected from more than 170,000 Northside ISD alumni who have graduated from NISD high schools since 1951. The Pillars represent the six character traits taught to NISD students that are part of the Josephson Instituteโs Character Counts program. The Pillars of Character are Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship, plus Learning.
