She was selected based on her academic performance, leadership skills, and civic engagement activities. At Clark, she was involved in the Spanish National Honor Society, Model UN, and Red Cross Club.
Barrera will use the $4,000 scholarship as she pursues a degree in International Politics at Georgetown University.
“Since LULAC’s early days, we have strived to support the educational opportunities of Latino students,” said LULAC National President Margaret Moran. “Scholarships are critical to making college a reality for countless young people. We are confident that Gabriela will be successful in her future with her studies at Georgetown University.”
To date, the NISD Class of 2015 has earned more than $93 million in college scholarships.
