Northside ISD has one of the largest high school bowling leagues in the state and can now boast the number one team and number one boys player in the state.
The Taft High School girls bowling team placed first in the Texas State High School Bowling Tournament in Fort Worth. Charlie Reid from O’Connor High School placed first in individual boys competition.
The O’Connor High School boys team placed second and Aaron Loera, Brennan HS, placed second in individual competition.
The competition was structured like the NCAA March Madness Tournament with a “Sweet 16” and “Elite Eight.”
Heather McCann, Taft HS, made the Elite Eight round.
Making the Sweet 16 round were the Brennan and Stevens boys teams and the Brandeis girls team. In individual competition, Xavier Salazar, Marshall HS, and Josh Perez, Jay HS, made the Sweet 16 round for the boys division as did Madison Berry, Brandeis HS, and Samantha Jewell, Taft HS, in the girls division.
NISD had seven teams competing at the state level. They were: Brennan, Clark, O’Connor, and Stevens high school boys teams, and Brandeis, Taft, and Health Careers high schools girls teams.
This is the seventh year for the NISD high school bowling league.
