For the fourth consecutive year, NEF is the top ranked education foundation in Bexar County and among the top 50 in the nation. The nation’s only study and ranking of K-12 education foundations, “Stepping Up: The Top K-12 Education Foundations in the Nation,” has ranked NEF 43rd.
Stepping Up looked at eight key performance categories to determine the ranking: total revenue; revenues per student; total assets; assets per student; grant and program expenses; grant and program expenses per student; investment income; and volunteers.
According to the report, this year's study expanded from 188 to 191 K-12 education foundations from 219 school districts, which represent the education foundations in the top 200 largest school districts (by student population), as well as top-performing foundations in smaller school districts.
Other Texas Foundations rounded out the top 50: Barbers Hill (#10); Frisco (#23); Irving (#30); San Antonio Education Partnership (#38); Cy-Fair (#41); Humble (#47); and Spring Branch (#49).
In addition to the overall national rankings, Foundations are ranked by division based on annual revenue. NEF ranked #5 in the Top 10 of Division 2.
The purpose of the Stepping Up Study is to advocate the importance of K-12 education foundations while recognizing those that do it best.
