NAHS Social Work
At NAHS, the main components of the social work program are Transitions, Attendance, Student Support, and Community/District Resources.
Transitions
The social worker facilitates the studentโs transition back to their home campus via the Transition Plan. This plan includes the studentโs entry and withdrawal grades and feedback from the teachers, social worker, and students. Most importantly, it includes strategies that NAHS teachers and staff have discovered that best support the student in the classroom academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. This plan is forwarded to the home campus administration and head counselor. Information is shared in order to advise the home campus of successful strategies, specific concerns or support needed, and academic progress.
Attendance
The social worker conferences with students who have excessive absences. The purpose is to identify extenuating circumstances the student/family may be experiencing and explore strategies and solutions to avoid further absences.
Student Support
The social worker is available to help support students emotionally and behaviorally. Students can share their concerns and the social worker will support the student in identifying issues, exploring options, generating solutions, and evaluating outcomes.
Community/District Resources
The social worker is available to help students and families locate and connect to resources within the district and the community at large. Resources include but are not limited to utility assistance, food, clothing, school supplies, mental health and counseling, medical care, training and education programs, parenting support, and emergency shelter.
