In Northside, we follow a literacy framework that includes the explicit and systematic teaching of foundational literacy skills.  The instructional components within our literacy framework promote the gradual release of responsibility from teacher to student.  Our students engage in literacy learning during read alouds of mentor texts, shared and performance reading/writing, mini lessons, small group instruction, and independent reading/writing.

Reading Language Arts at Lieck ES

The Elementary Language Arts and Reading Department supports the district's mission in its commitment to the belief that children come first. Through curriculum, instruction, and professional staff development, this department strives to promote life-long literacy and learning for all students.

As the reading specialist at Lieck Elementary, I pull out tier 3 reading groups. These groups are made for students that need tier 3 interventions. Some of the programs I use are Open Court and LLI (Leveled Literacy Intervention). I also service students with dyslexia four times a week for 30 minutes. The intervention program I use is Corrective Reading. Our reading program at Lieck Elementary follows the NISD curriculum and every teacher implements guided reading. We assess each child, analyze data, and construct a plan to ensure each student is successful in reading.
