Music

Music is part of the 6-day Discovery Rotation schedule at Lieck. Students in K-5 explore Music through movement, singing, playing instruments, and musical games. The music curriculum examines rhythm, pitch, harmony, instrumental timbre, folk dance, and cultural context. In the Lieck Music room, students play a wide variety of small unpitched percussion instruments like triangle, maracas, woodblock, hand drum, guiro, and tambourine, as well as larger percussion instruments like the tubano drum, as well as pitched mallet percussion instruments like xylophone, metallophone, and glockenspiel. Starting in 3rd grade, students learn a string instrument, the ukulele. Starting in 4th grade, students receive their first wind instrument, the recorder.

In the Music room at Lieck, students are creators, collaborators, communicators, critical thinkers, leaders, learners, innovators, and solution finders.

Extra-curricular performing groups at Lieck include 5th Grade Strings, where they learn beginning violin on Tues/Thurs mornings before school from September-May, and Lyrical Lions Choir, which rehearses on Thursdays after school starting in October.
