Mission Statement:
Preparing the Driggers Hounds of today to be the leaders of tomorrow.

I began my career as a 1st and 2nd grade Bilingual/Dual Language Teacher in my hometown of Progreso, Texas. With a long-standing admiration for San Antonio, I joined the Northside Independent School District in 2002 as a 5th grade Bilingual Teacher at Powell Elementary. Later, I transitioned to Esparza Elementary, where I served as a Math Specialist. I then became an Administrative Intern at Glenoaks Elementary. In 2017, I joined Fisher Elementary as their Associate Principal.
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Bilingual Education from the University of Texas Pan American and a Master’s Degree in Bilingual and Bicultural Studies with a focus on Gifted and Talented Students. In 2014, I received a degree in School Administration from Concordia University.
My belief in student-centered learning and the power of collaboration and equity has always guided my journey in education. I am committed to creating an environment where every student feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. I am a firm believer in building a strong school/home partnership, which is essential to the education of our students. My vision is that at Driggers Elementary, every child is inspired to achieve their best by fostering a culture of kindness, respect, and curiosity where students are excited to learn.
I have a very supportive husband, Ken, who worked and retired from NISD. We have two amazing sons, Kenny, who graduated from Brandeis High School and then from Northwest Vista College, and Daniel, who is a Senior at Brandeis HS.
It is my privilege to lead Rita Kay Driggers Elementary and work with talented and hard-working teachers, staff and students. I believe that a great school is built on a foundation of trust, respect, and open communication, and I am eager to hear your perspectives, ideas, and aspirations for our school. Together, we can set high expectations for our students, foster a culture of kindness and respect, and ensure that Driggers Elementary remains a place where students, staff, and families feel a sense of belonging and pride.

The Associate Principal also serves as the Campus Behavior Coordinator. They can be reached by email at melissa.alvarez@nisd.net or by phone at (210) 397-5915.
I am SUPER excited to be a part of the Driggers family. This is my tenth year in Northside and I have taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and my Master’s Degree in Leadership Policies and Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Go Roadrunners! I look forward to making a difference in our school and community. I look forward to working with each and every one of our students, families, and members of our community.
