In Northside, our concept-based curriculum for Science and Social Studies is interactive, hands-on, exploratory, and inquiry-based. This curriculum was developed using the required state standards within each content area and is designed to help students explore and learn about the world through observation, investigation, and communication. Students will engage in scientific and engineering practices and will design solutions to real-world problems. In grades K-4, we have created a curriculum that integrates Science and Social Studies standards, along with local story lines. In grade 5, the Science curriculum is a year-long study of general Science content and the Social Studies curriculum surveys the history of the United States.

Science at Carson ES

At Carson Elementary, we provide engaging and hands-on science learning opportunities for our students.  To reinforce studentsโ€™ knowledge of concepts, we also offer a variety of after-school STEM-based clubs. In Flight Club, kindergartners and first graders design and test parachutes, rockets, paper airplanes and kites.  Our second graders have the exciting opportunity to design arcade-type games through the Cardboard Arcade club. In STEAM Team, our third graders get to use their creativity to create Rube Goldberg machines. Our fourth and fifth graders have two science clubs available to them.  In Solar Cars, our students design solar-powered cars to race. Through Young Astronauts, students receive space-science related lessons and complete exciting projects. Fifth grade members even get to attend Stargazing Night, an annual district-wide event. In addition, our teachers organize an annual science night for our Carson families.  STEM activities, for students of all grade levels, fill our school on this fun night.
