In Northside, we follow a literacy framework that includes the explicit and systematic teaching of foundational literacy skills. The instructional components within our literacy framework promote the gradual release of responsibility from teacher to student. Our students engage in literacy learning during read alouds of mentor texts, shared and performance reading/writing, mini lessons, small group instruction, and independent reading/writing.
Reading Language Arts at Carson ES
Our campus facilitates proficiency in reading and writing in a variety of ways. We help students develop a love for reading early on by providing many opportunities to explore text in multisensory ways across multiple media. We investigate the many characteristics of different genres, and encourage plenty of student choice. Our lessons contain the depth necessary to allow students to develop those critical thinking skills necessary to become advanced readers, writers, thinkers, and collaborators.
We also have many different interventions and supports for our students who may be struggling in reading, and we communicate student progress with parents every step of the way. We believe in educators partnering with families to ensure student success!
