Board of Trustees

Elected by the people to govern Northside Schools, Trustees are the guardians of the public trust and, through the policies they make, are ultimately responsible for our schools. This responsibility and the accessibility of Trustees to the voters make the Board one of the purest examples of democracy in our society.

Northside Trustees represent about 208,000 households located in 355 square miles in northwest Bexar County and parts of Medina and Bandera counties. Northside continues to be the “destination” district in San Antonio for many families seeking a quality school system for their children and for employees seeking a quality place to work.

Northside ISD students and staff recognize the importance and significance of the selfless contributions of our veterans. There were Veterans Day celebrations and recognition ceremonies at schools throughout NISD where parents, grandparents, siblings, and employees who are veterans were saluted. These are highlights from the events at some Northside schools and departments.

John Marshall Harlan served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1877 to 1911. A Kentuckian by birth, Harlan had the nickname “The Great Dissenter” because he was the only justice to vote against the outcome of Plessy v Ferguson in 1896 and other cases that solidified the legal standing of segregation until the high court and Congress began to dissolve those laws in the 1950s and 1960s.

What is a Thanksgiving dinner without cranberries? Thanks to students from Northside ISD’s Learning Tree After-School Enrichment program there will be enough cranberries for the 25,000 guests expected at the 38th annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner this year.

Alamodome management today confirmed graduation dates for Northside ISD high schools.  NISD will hold 11 graduations in June 2018, ten of which are held at the Alamodome.  The graduation for Health Careers High School will be held at the Northside Sports Gym.

This is Northside features an international parade at Colonies North Elementary School and a visit by a special children’s author at Lieck Elementary School.

Five Northside ISD PTAs have been named 2017-2019 National PTA Schools of Excellence. Beard, Murnin, Leon Springs, and Scarborough elementary schools and Neff Middle School are among 143 schools from across the country to receive this special designation and are the only schools in San Antonio to receive it.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: reviewed a boundary proposal for Mora ES that will relieve Behlau and Lieck elementary schools; recognized Beard, Murnin, Leon Springs, and Scarborough elementary schools and Neff MS as National PTA Schools of Excellence; and appointed campus administrators including three elementary principals.

The Northside Learning Tree After School Enrichment Program is seeking outgoing, energetic, and positive role models to fill approximately 100 part-time Youth Leader Instructor positions. Interested applicants should stop by the Learning Tree Job Fair on Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Northside Learning Center, 6632 Bandera Road, Building D.
