Overview:

NISD's Learning Tree After School Program offers opportunities for children to access academic enrichment, social, and recreational experiences in an environment that is safe and supervised.  It is run by the Northside's Community Education Department. This department aligns itself with The Texas Education Agencyโ€™s expectations, as well as NISDโ€™s high standards of all staff, and maintains the rigor and expectations of our students throughout their day.

Students are escorted to Learning Tree immediately after school and can stay with the program until 6:30pm. Students rotate through 3 main time blocks about 45 minutes each: Homework, CATCH, and Enrichment. The homework block is time for your student to work on their homework in a quiet classroom setting. CATCH is our recreational time in which students play organized games in a safe environment.

Our enrichment activities are guided by the same standards teachers use, The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).  Students experience these skills through hands-on, interactive, and multi-sensory activities. Curriculum topics include: Science, Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, College/ Workforce, and a special emphasis is placed on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Visit the Learning Tree web page for more information.
