Curriculum Overview
The John Jay Science & Engineering Academy offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a real-world, hands-on, STEM-focused curriculum in the areas of Computer Science, Engineering, Biomedical Science, and Robotics. SEAโs goal is to help its students build a strong foundation in STEM with the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to be prepared for their future endeavors.
100% of SEA students are accepted to college. The class of 2019 seniors earned over $20 million in scholarships, and the class of 2020 earned over $9 million in scholarships last year. Students at the Science & Engineering Academy participate in academic research throughout all four years of high school.
The John Jay Science & Engineering Academic Research Symposium is one of the largest in the state, with over 600 participants each year and more than $500,000 in scholarships awarded to grand prize winners. All students have the opportunity to participate in this fair.
Other areas of academic research include History Fair, Robotics, ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) Mentor Program, SAWS Impact Teams, Destination Imagination, Art in STEM, Cinematic Science (making connections in science through film), and Evolution of Games (teaching STEM through games).
All SEA students participate in an advanced curriculum, which includes 23 AP courses and several Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment classes.
Mentorship Opportunities
Science & Engineering students have the opportunity to attend STEM related field trips and interact with professionals in the STEM fields throughout the year.
