Jay HS spreads holiday cheer

December 17, 2013

It’s one of the longest-running Christmas traditions in Northside ISD. For 46 years, Jay High School has been making the holidays brighter for underprivileged elementary students. Jay students and staff, along with local businesses, raise money to take students on a shopping trip.

Over two days, the Jay students took students from seven nearby elementary schools shopping at Walmart.

Each elementary student was given $25 for shoes and $25 for toys. (The total budget to do this is approximately $7,000.) The event started with just one elementary school, but has grown to include seven elementary schools in the Jay community.

This event is organized annually by Jay teacher Calvin Buchholtz.
