The unique Social Studies courses are just as innovative as ELA and CTE courses. Students will study people, places, and societies of the dynamics of communities, students will examine the influence of individuals and groups as well as identify the technological impact on various societies.


6th Grade - 
Global Communications & World Cultures

This course is designed to explore 6th grade World Cultures concepts as they relate to global communication, cybersecurity and information technology. Students will blend skills learned in social studies, ELA and technology together and engage in Gifted and Talented learning strategies such as depth and complexity, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. The content in this course includes a variety of topics such as the study of people, places and societies of the contemporary world. Students will study the influence of individuals and groups on historical and contemporary events. They will identify locations and geographic features of various societies. Students will learn the different ways of organizing economies and government systems. They will compare various institutions common to all societies and learn how the level of technology affects development of various societies.

7th Grade - 
Global Communications & Texas History

This course is designed to explore 7th grade Texas History concepts as they relate to global communication, cybersecurity and information technology. Students will blend skills learned in social studies, ELA and technology together and engage in Gifted and Talented learning strategies such as depth and complexity, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. The content in this course includes a variety of topics such as the political, social, economic and geographic study of the history of Texas. Students will identify the different regions of Texas and study the population distribution within and among these regions. They will learn about the structure and function of municipal, county and state governments, compare the U.S. and Texas Constitutions, and examine the rights and responsibilities of Texas citizens.

8th Grade - 
Global Communications & US History

This course is designed to explore 8th grade U.S. History concepts as they relate to global communication, cybersecurity and information technology. Students will blend skills learned in social studies, ELA and technology together and engage in Gifted and Talented learning strategies such as depth and complexity, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. The content in this course includes a variety of topics such as the political, social, economic and geographic study of United States history. Students will learn about the physical characteristics of the United States and their impact on population distribution and settlement patterns. They will examine American beliefs and principles, learn about the structure of the U.S. government, and examine the rights and responsibilities of a United States citizen.
