Global Literacy II: Cross-Cultural Perspectives

Students will be introduced to the study of global communication and will examine how information is exchanged across the world, verbally and nonverbally, as well as face-to-face. Global communication can include speeches, news stories, advertisements, books and traditional print publications, and social media. Students will also engage in Gifted and Talented learning strategies such as depth and complexity, creative problem solving, and critical thinking while studying multiple perspectives and making connections that will enhance their communication and interpersonal skills.

7th Grade - 
Global Communications & Texas History

This course is designed to explore 7th grade Texas History concepts as they relate to global communication, cybersecurity and information technology. Students will blend skills learned in social studies, ELA and technology together and engage in Gifted and Talented learning strategies such as depth and complexity, creative problem solving, and critical thinking. The content in this course includes a variety of topics such as the political, social, economic and geographic study of the history of Texas. Students will identify the different regions of Texas and study the population distribution within and among these regions. They will learn about the structure and function of municipal, county and state governments, compare the U.S. and Texas Constitutions, and examine the rights and responsibilities of Texas citizens.

7th Grade - 
Leadership Investigations

Students will become familiar with different ways of exercising leadership in their lives. They will learn and apply leadership skills in a hands-on practical way that encourages them to challenge their own beliefs and assumptions about what constitutes leadership. This course offers a comprehensive review of contemporary issues and perspectives on leadership. Topics include development of leadership theories, personal assessment and development, values and goals, motivation, followership, group dynamics, multiculturalism in leadership, conflict resolution, performance excellence, and the change process. This course is based on the premise that each student will face a variety of leadership challenges in life. How these challenges are met, whether as a formal leader or a member of a team, can have a significant impact on an organization and on one's life.

7th Grade - 
Principals of Informational Technology

Students will develop computer literacy skills which will enable them to adapt to emerging technologies used in the global marketplace and the field of cybersecurity. Students will implement personal and interpersonal skills to prepare for a rapidly evolving workplace environment, specifically in cybersecurity. Units exploring the challenges facing information security professionals related to ethics, system security, network security, and application security will be presented. Students will enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the global information technology environment.
