Communities in Schools-SA (CIS) has a mission to surround students with a community of support that empowers them to stay in school and achieve in life. Based directly inside schools throughout Bexar County, CIS connects children and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources, tailored to each studentโ€™s specific needs. Abigail Crotts, also known as Miss Abi, is the Site Coordinator for Valley-Hi Elementary.  Her role on campus is to support teachers, students and families in a variety of ways. She has a real passion to help students reach their fullest potential and help families stay connected and engaged.

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS (CIS) NEWSLETTER

Hello families, I hope you are all staying safe and sane during this challenging time! Remember, we are here for you!

TOPIC: Stress

This is definitely a stressful time for everyone and a major adjustment. While we are all learning how to navigate Google Classroom and complete assignments, it is important to remember to take time for yourself and your family. Practice healthy boundaries with school activities and work, remember to stay connected with each other and ask for help if/when you need it! While the circumstances are certainly undesirable, this time at home can prove valuable to your family. This is time to spend strengthening relationships and making memories. Try not to stress too much and make the most of it.

Self Care Ideas

Be random: family dance party, movie night, game night, indoor picnic

Individual activities: listen to music, meditate, yoga, puzzles, read

Be creative: Build an indoor fort, make a meal together, read a book and act it out, play your instruments, create a new song, make a story

Share your feelings: talk them out, journal or draw

Be active: Go for a walk, ride your bike, nature scavenger hunt, exercise, play with chalk (donโ€™t forget to wash your hands!!)

Be kind to yourself, you are doing great!

Even though we arenโ€™t at school, we are still a school family!
