Algebra 1 is a high school math class.Credit is earned each semester as long as the grade is 70 or higher and the student has 9 or fewer absences. Semester exams are given the last week
of each semester. These exams will account for 20% of the semester grade. The Algebra 1 STAAR End of Course exam is the one math STAAR exam that is required to receive a high school diploma. In preparation of the STAAR exam, home-work is given every school night and graded the next day. Morning and afternoon tutoring is available.

Students enrolled in Pre-AP 6th and 7th grade math courses will have curriculum compounded as classroom teachers are preparing students to achieve a higher level of math in their high school years.
Following is a description of what students are expected to learn while enrolled in these classes.

6th grade Pre-AP

Students who are enrolled in the 6th grade Pre-AP course will learn all of 6th grade and the first half of the 7th grade curriculum required by Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These students will take the 6th grade STAAR at the end of the school year.

7th grade Pre-AP

Students who are enrolled in the 7th grade Pre-AP course will learn the second half of 7th grade and all of the 8th grade curriculum required by Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). These students will take the 8th grade STAAR at the end of the school year.

Students enrolled in 6th/7th grade Math will take their grade level STAAR. The students are provided with engaging lessons and tutoring before or after school when needed.

SCE is an intervention for students who struggle with mathematics. This class pre-teaches vocabulary and content three days of the week and fills gaps the other two days.  This class will help the students be more confident in their regular math class

In Northside ISD, we believe that all students should have access to the course pathway that will prepare them for college, career, military and beyond. To support this effort, the MS Math Program has multiple entry points from students to access Accelerated and Advanced coursework.  The courses offered in the MS Mathematics program are listed below, including a link to the Pacing Calendar for each course.
