Timberwilde Elementary School opened with 785 students in August of 1980 under the leadership of Principal Bobbye Behlau. A western Trailblazer theme was evident in the early years and in 1984, a beautiful Trailblazer mural was painted on the back wall of the cafeteria. Even today, this mural serves as a reminder of our Trailblazer roots. Over the years, the Timberwolf included in that mural emerged as our school mascot. Enrollment at Timberwilde has fluctuated greatly over the years. Current enrollment holds steady at approximately 550 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades.
In recent years, Northside Independent School District has invested bond monies for the installation of a security lobby and perimeter fencing. Other improvements included renovations to our kitchen to increase the area available for food preparation and upgrades to our stage. During this same period of time, the library received renovations to include a beautiful storytelling area as well as moveable shelving and seating. All of these improvements are a result of Northside's commitment to maintaining quality facilities throughout the district.
Timberwilde has been designated as a Title I school. More than half of our students meet the criteria to qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. Our campus receives Title I funds for personnel such as reading and math specialists. These funds are also utilized to provide additional tutoring and instructional resources. Research shows a close correlation between parent involvement at school and student achievement and we continually seek to involve parents in school programs.
Our PTA has focused its efforts on supporting our students and faculty. Grants are available for club sponsors to provide enrichment activities outside of the school day. Funds are raised for a variety of programs, especially student field trip experiences. Parents serve our campus as PAL volunteers and support our campus events throughout the year.
Timberwilde is a neighborhood school grounded in the traditions of our families and our community. Our students and staff proudly wear their Timberwilde Timberwolves attire. Generations of families are connected to our campus and these bonds bring a great deal of pride to Timberwilde.
