It is my pleasure to be able to serve as the Principal at Powell Elementary.
I have been in education for 18 years where I joined NISD as an Instructional Assistant at Dr. Joe Ward Elementary, Special Education teacher at Howsman Elementary, Special Education Coordinator at Ward Elementary, Administrator Intern at Carlos Coon, Vice-Principal at Christian Evers and Associate Principal at Ward Elementary. I am excited to now be a part of the Powell Family.
At Powell Elementary, our core beliefs are to provide a safe and challenging environment for our students to learn at their maximum potential and create opportunities that foster meaningful relationships among students, staff, families and the community. Our partnership between home and school is extremely important for the success of every child. We would like to encourage our families to join our Powell PTA and stay connected to the great things that our teachers at Powell are doing every day.
On behalf of our Powell staff, we are ignited and grateful to do the work we do with every child so please do not hesitate to contact us for any questions. or support. Go Thunderbirds!
The Associate Principal also serves as the Campus Behavior Coordinator. They can be reached by email at marissa.martinez@nisd.net or by phone at 210-397-0450.
I am the Associate Principal at Powell and proudly call myself a Thunderbird! I have worked in education for 21 years in Northside ISD previously serving at Evers Elementary, Michael Elementary, and Lewis Elementary working in Special Education. I graduated from Texas A&M San Antonio with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies specializing in Special Education. I also attended Trinity University where I earned my Master's in Educational Leadership.
I believe all children have the capability to learn and achieve their maximum potential when given the opportunity through high-quality teaching and a supportive learning environment. I am a strong advocate for community engagement and know that the Powell community is supportive and strong!
I look forward to serving students, teachers, and families this school year with all my heart!
