The NISD School Counseling Program supports the educational, career, personal, and social development of all students through Guidance Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, and System Support. NISD school counselors provide leadership, guidance and support through a comprehensive school counseling program so students attain lifelong skills to reach their full potential. The roles and responsibilities of a school counselor align with what the American School Counselor Association Model and the Texas Model for Comprehensive School outline.

The Lewis Counseling Department focuses on the four components: intrapersonal relationships, interpersonal relationships, post-secondary planning, and personal health/safety.

Through short-term individual and group counseling we are able to teach specific coping skills and strategies to help meet the needs of our students. Our campus recognizes the importance of social and emotional development and we work alongside parents, teachers and staff to develop these skills. Students who have social and emotional skills are more likely to become empathetic leaders with strong character and are better equipped to handle challenges that may come their way.  In addition, we are available for consultation and to provide outside resources and referrals when necessary.
