Upcoming Parent Meeting
We will host our second STEM Parent Meeting of the school year on November 19, in the Jones cafeteria. Part of this meeting will feature our counselor, Ms. Galvan, with strategies for parents to support their students' high achievement without creating undo anxiety. We also plan to promote campus clubs and display some recent student work. The meeting will be in the Jones cafeteria from 6-7 PM on November 19.
UTSA PREP
UTSA hosts a summer program for current 6th graders through 11th grade. The program focuses on engineer and design. We typically have a large number of Jones STEM Magnet students involved in UTSA PREP. Applications are open NOW through February 14. Northside ISD covers some of the cost of the program, making the cost $250 for Northside families.
You can learn more and apply at: https://klesse.utsa.edu/prep/
The application requires some documents from the school. If you contact the STEM office, we will help you secure:
- A conduct letter from the school.
- An unofficial transcript from the counseling office.
- Email addresses for your student's math & science teachers (for the reference forms).
Recent Alamo Nex Field Trip
This week, 40 Jones STEM Magnet students from all grades visited a local engineering company, Alamo Nex, to learn about the large highway construction projects they are conducting and to challenge their engineers to a building competition. Our students had a great time with hands-on activities and learning about STEM careers here in Texas.
