Upcoming STEM Parent Meeting

We will host our second STEM Parent Meeting of the school year on November 19, in the Jones cafeteria. Part of this meeting will feature our counselor, Ms. Galvan, with strategies for parents to support their students' high achievement without creating undo anxiety. We also plan to display some recent student work. The meeting will be in the Jones cafeteria from 6-7 PM on November 19.

Student Volunteers

We have several opportunities coming up for student volunteers. Our district Magnet Fairs are off-campus events where we get to showcase our magnet program to the community, and our Magnet Open Houses are events on-campus where we show off our student work to potential new students. If your student is interested in volunteering at any of these, please have them contact Ms. Savannah in the STEM office.

  • December 9, Magnet Fair at the Northside Activity Center
  • January 9, Magnet Open House at Jones
  • January 14, Magnet Open House at Jones

Student Work on Display

Sixth grade students in Dr. Marquez's Career Investigations class completed a short design challenge on Friday. Students worked with a group to construct the tallest tower that could support a softball. They had 30 straws and 3 feet of tape to work with. Earlier this year, students completed a similar challenge with paper before working with plastic straws today. The activity introduced students to the engineering concepts of stability, compression, and structure.
