Attendance

Attendance Matters

Each day important instruction is happening at Hobby Middle School.

If your child has been absent you can turn in a parent note for the absence or email a copy of the doctor's note directly to Victoria.Denton@nisd.net

Please keep in mind multiple parent notes may result in a parent conference.  Always submit a doctor's note when possible.

ABSENCES:

There are 3 types of absences: excused, unexcused, & extended illness/injury. If a student misses one or more classes, a note containing the following information must be provided to the attendance office to properly code the absence:

  • Studentโ€™s name and ID#
  • Date(s) of absence(s)
  • Date(s) they were under doctor care
  • Date(s) student will be able to return to school
  • Reason for Absence(s), and nature of illness
  • Signature of parent/guardian and Doctor (if under care)
  • Phone number (where a parent can be reached)

**Absence Forms can be emailed to the Attendance Secretary, Victoria Denton at Victoria.Denton@nisd.net or by phone at 210-397-3708.

If families are aware that their child will be absent for an extended period of time, parents are encouraged to:

  • Please contact attendance secretary
  • Ask the teachers for academic assignments prior to the absence.

After a student is absent for more than three (3) days, parents may request and pick up work from the Front Office (210-397-6300). The Front Office must be notified one (1) day in advance of when the assignments would like to be picked up. (Teachers have 24 hours to turn in the class assignments to the front office.)

Absences from class unavoidably affect the quality of a student's work, interferes with normal instructional procedures in the classroom, and places additional demands on the teacher to provide remedial assistance. Therefore, regular attendance and punctuality are required for every student for each scheduled class.

PICKING UP STUDENT FROM SCHOOL:

On Regular School Days, students WILL NOT be called from class after 3:15 pm, unless an emergency situation exist or a Parent Note is provided to the Attendance Office Window at the beginning of the school day.

Parent pick up from the Clinic requires a valid Parent/Doctor note be turned in, upon return to school, at the Attendance Office Window to be considered excused.
