Core Beliefs
Each student deserves a quality education which honors their voice and prepares them to engage, contribute, and succeed.
Students' levels of health, safety, engagement, challenge, and support are directly linked to their academic achievement and future success.
Meaningful relationships among students, families, educators, and the community are vital to student success.
Fernandez Elementary is essential to fostering community and developing engaged citizens.
My educational philosophy is that every day, every student deserves a fresh start and the opportunity to have access to positive educational experiences. My commitment to each student, staff member, family, and the community of Fernandez is to lead with the whole child in mind while creating a safe environment that fosters a culture of inclusivity and academic excellence.
There are many amazing things that happen here at Fernandez and with your continued support, I am confident that as our students continue to grow, we will have many opportunities to celebrate our Bulldogs together.

My name is Marissa Barboza and it is with great excitement that I write this to you as the Associate Principal of Fernandez Elementary School. I feel extremely fortunate to be part of this school community and play a role in helping to lead the staff, students, and families of Fernandez ES.
This year is my 16th year as an educator, of which the last 12 years have been in NISD at Passmore Elementary (9 years), Murnin Elementary (1 year), and Powell Elementary (1 year). My experience as a classroom teacher includes 10 years as a 3rd grade teacher and 4 years as a 1st grade teacher.
I am ready to utilize my experience and educational beliefs to support the staff, students, and community of Fernandez ES. Because the relationships between teachers, administrators, and families are vital to the success of our students and school, I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know each of you. Hereโs to an exciting year of learning and growing together!
