Speech-language therapy can be provided to children identified with a speech impairment starting at three years old in public schools. A Northside speech-language pathologist conducts communication assessments and determines a plan based on the assessment results; speech impairment falls under the special education umbrella.
The speech-language pathologist also attends special education meetings, response to intervention meetings and meets with staff & parents to discuss speech-language concerns/issues. If parents have communication concerns about their child's speech-language skills, they should FIRST contact their child's classroom teacher.
