About Our World Languages Department
The Department of World Languages welcomes you to Tom C. Clark H.S. Students are strongly encouraged to study French, German, or Spanish. Four-year selective universities often require a minimum of three years of the same language study at the high school level. Additionally, studying multiple years of the same language will demonstrate a determination these universities are often searching for during their admission process.
To attain the greatest benefit of the World Language program we offer classes in French, German, and Spanish. As “Advanced”, AP, and Dual Credit are options, GPA enhancement will be given for those students enrolled in “Advanced” or AP level world language courses.
The study of World Languages is an essential component in becoming a well-rounded learner in the 21st century. The study of a language other than English will heighten students' global awareness and will help them develop an appreciation of their immediate surroundings and beyond. Armed with the benefits of their adventures in the World Language programs at Clark, students will be able to make positive contributions to our society.

World Language Department Teachers
World Languages at Northside ISD:
American Sign Language (ASL), French, German, Latin, Spanish
The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Languages Other Than English (TEKS for LOTE) is the foundation of all Northside ISD World Languages curriculum. The World Languages offered in Northside ISD are French, German, Latin (select campuses), Spanish, and ASL (offered at Marshall HS and Taft HS only).
Since the teaching of all modern languages is similar, the following descriptions apply to each level of each language. French, German, and Spanish courses consistently use the three modes of communication: Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational. Via the practice of the three modes of communication, the following skills will be refined; speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Latin is a classical language where great emphasis is placed on the skill of reading. ASL is a performance-based language where the focus is on signaling skills in authentic, real-world situations.
Students will have the opportunity to enroll in several language courses from I - VI and may take on-level, Advanced, and/or Advanced Placement.
