CCA students were invited to showcase one of the 2017 student built tiny homes at the San Antonio Home and Garden Show. Although the home is still under construction, representatives of the Home and Garden Show invited Academy students to showcase their handy work at the show. The home will be displayed during the show at the Alamodome beginning Friday through Sunday. Students, parents and staff will meet with vendors and participants.

CCA students participated in the San Antonio Lowes Contractor Fair. Students manned their booth, networked with regional vendors, and passed out information and flyers on the Academy. The event served as a great opportunity to build connections.

The Geometry in Construction students took on learning the value of indirect measurements and proportions. Students put the skills to use. Students measured themselves and their shadow and drew a comparison to a shadow of a taller object. Students then set up a proportion to calculate the height of the object.

CCA seniors partner with Air Force Federal Credit Union (AFFCU) for financial training. AFFCU officials met with seniors. Students learned about the importance of smart buying, saving, establishing credit, and investing wisely. It was an opportunity for students to learn soft skills that would help them in their life journey.

CCA students visit the School of Engineering at Texas A&M. Over 40 students take the trip. The Texas A&M Department of Engineering rolled out the red carpet. Students met with campus students and staff. They toured the engineering complex and got a first hand look at student life. The visit was part of the Academy's ongoing mission to provide students a first hand look at the construction industry.

Sheet Metal Workers Local #67 visits campus and provide training on the preparation and installation of metal roofing. Students learned how to bend and install metal roofing from sheet metal.

Academy freshman take on the rigors of the OSHA certification. Over 156 CCA freshman work toward completing their Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification, a certification generally reserved for industry adults. Students who successfully complete the course will have all the rights and privileges associated with the certification. The training is part of the Academy's advanced curriculum.

CCA students were challenged to engineer an egg drop capsule. Students were given limited supplies to build a capsule designed to protect an egg from a 17 foot drop. View story here!

Engineering students design a self-propelled car from junk. Students use every day items you find in the common kitchen junk draw to design and build a self-propelled model car/vehicle.
