Students from a variety of our strands participated in the ACE Mentorship program. ACE stands for Architecture, Construction and Engineering. Industry professionals come in to meet with our students throughout the year for coaching. Recently, our students gave their final presentation as they proposed a park design for Steubing Park on the north side of San Antonio. Their concept included designs for hiking trails, a pavillion, an outdoor theater area, and an area for food trucks.

Two of our CCA students meet with members of Impact San Antonio at their Last Call Event. Our young ladies shared with the members of ImpactSA the significance of the $100,000 Impact San Antonio Grant on CCA. Students highlighted the impact that CCA has had on their future career paths in fields of Construction Management and Electrical Wiring. Full Article Here.

Eighteen students from CCA participated in the Bexar County Texas Society of Professional Engineers/UTSA School of Engineering Design Challenge held at UTSA.There were two events held - Robotics and Engineering Design Challenge. CCA took all three of the top spots in the Engineering Design Challenge out of 24 teams competing! In total, our students earned $4,000 in UTSA scholarship monies. Pictures of the winners inside!

CCA sent a girls team to compete in the Texas Construction Career Iniative's (TCCI) build competition at the Freeman Coliseum. Not only were they the only girls team, but the only girls in the competition. These girls worked together like a machine and narrowly missed taking first place! They earned second out of eight teams competing. More great pictures of the girls working together and awards inside.

Sophomores from the Construction Management strand toured two of Skanska USA's construction sites. The students spoke with several project managers, including a CCA graduate who just graduated from Texas A&M's Construction Science program and now works there full time. Our students learned about their jobs and responsibilities as project managers. See more pictures from the trip inside.

CCA had many students travel down to Corpus Christi to compete in the SkillsUSA competition. One of our students will again travel to Kentucky in June for the national competition in the Sheet Metal division. Congratulations to all our students and very nice job representating Construction Careers Academy! Awards earned and many pictures of our students are in this article.

39 of CCA's finest headed to the coast to compete in SkillsUSA. Some of the events they are competing in are Masonry, Land Survey, Sheet Metal, Team Works, Job Interview and Electrical Codes, just to name a few! Good luck to our students. Some of the winners of this weekend's competition will go to Kentucky for the national SkillsUSA competition.

Each year our business partners along with our parent partnership conduct resume' writing and interview training. This year Andi Galloway from Joeris General Contracting conducted a mini workshop on resume' writing techniques to our students. In April, students will have the opportunity to participate in a professional mock interview conducted by strand. Some of these interviews in the past have lead to students actually getting hired by the companies!
