I am Mr. Funkhouser, the Principal of Braun Station Elementary. I am originally from the Midwest. I grew up and attended public school in Illinois and Ohio, although I have lived in Texas most of my life. After graduating high school, I enlisted in the United States Air Force. After maturing a bit, I decided to go to college. I attended Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and started my teaching career in 1994. Over the years, I have been a fifth-grade teacher, math specialist (MSD), Campus Instructional Technologist (CIT), and Technology Training Specialist. During that time, I completed a master's in curriculum and instruction from Houston Baptist University, and later I completed requirements to be a principal at Texas A&M Kingsville. Then, I became a vice-principal at Nichols Elementary. I have been the principal at Braun Station since 2010. I love the school, community, and teachers! Braun Station is simply the best!
The Associate Principal also serves as the Campus Behavior Coordinator. They can be reached by email at nancy.garcia@nisd.net or by phone at 210-397-1565.
Hello Bobcats!
My name is Nancy Garcia and I am honored to be your new associate principal. I am very excited to meet each one of you and see the amazing things that you will be doing in your classrooms this year. I can’t wait to work with our students, parents, staff and community, alike.
A little about me… This is my sixteenth year in education. My experience includes teaching 4th grade for four years at S.A.I.S.D. and 5th grade for eleven years with Northside. My forte and favorite subject is math; I love a good fraction word problem challenge. I am from San Antonio and a two-time alumni of The University of Texas at San Antonio. I have a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting and a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies. I love UTSA football and you are sure to find me at any home game. Go Runners!
I believe that positive relationships are the foundation to success. Once those relationships are formed, then we set high expectations and we help each other grow. I am looking forward to the best year at Braun Station! Go Bobcats!
