Special Education Summer School

SPECIAL EDUCATION SUMMER PROGRAMS 2013

NISD currently has summer programs that are available to students with special education support that meet eligibility requirements.

Elementary School
The summer Student Support Initiative (SSI) Accelerated Instruction for elementary, provides summer intervention to 5^th grade special education students who did not meet standard on the first two administrations of STAAR-M. Additionally the Elementary summer school program provides opportunity for remediation to K-4 students who have been retained.

Middle School
The summer Student Support Initiative (SSI) middle school program provides summer intervention to 8^th grade special education students who did not meet standard on the first two administrations of STAAR-M. Additionally the summer school program provides opportunity for remediation to any student who failed 2 or 3 core academic courses and has been retained.

High School
Under TEC §39.025 (b-1) a school district is required to provide accelerated instruction to each student who fails to perform satisfactorily on an EOC assessment. Each high school will provide accelerated instruction and credit retrieval opportunities for students that meet eligibility.

Note: Students receiving special education services who failed to perform satisfactorily on EOC Modified do not retest in summer.
