Mayor Julian Castro visited Engineering Design teacher Luis Rivera and his students, April 14, and then addressed an assembly of seniors, speaking to them about him growing up on the Westside with his brother Congressman Joaquin Castro. Congratulations! First time in school history! Ranked number one in the Region and District Champ, Gabe Evans, who placed second in Regionals, will compete at the State tennis tournament.
Congratulations! Culinary Arts placed second in a statewide mystery basket competition in Austin April 11. Students received a $1000 scholarship for their efforts.
Ones! Once More! The Mustang Marching Freshman band received a first division in sight reading, and both the varsity and non-varsity bands earned a Sweepstakes award. This marks the 8th year in a row that the varsity band earned straight first divisions in both concert and sight reading.

Congratulations to the Mustang Bowling Team, which included Britni Martinez, Gaje Long, Gabe Lopez, Mason Dyer, Miguel Ali, Manny Diaz and Josue (Josh) Perez, for making it to the state finals, earning them the 11th spot in Texas, while Perez captured the Boys State Singles Runner-up.
