Collaboration, student engagement, and excitement are all apparent in the collaborative classrooms that received Promethean ActivPanels from the DoDEA grant.
Northside ISD received this grant from the Department of Defense Education Activity Fund (DoDEA) for 2015-2018. The grant provides support and resources to collaborative classrooms at 6 elementary and 2 middle schools here in the district. One of the resources provided was a Promethean ActivPanel, which is an interactive whiteboard with a tablet-like, multi-touch surface.
The ActivPanel and Promethean board, available in the same classroom, give the collaborative teacher pair the ability to implement collaborative structures using similar tech devices. Teachers have the ability to think aloud and model as they utilize these tools during Alternative and Parallel Teaching. Students are also able to practice concepts and show their learning while they work independently or in small groups during Station Teaching.
In a fourth grade classroom at Langley ES, Mayra Martinez and Heidi Kay used their teacher iPads and both Promethean boards, using a Team Teach collaborative structure, to deliver a Nearpod grammar lesson. In a third grade classroom at Behlau ES, Rebekah Osher and Lenette Gonzales utilized iPods and the Active Panel and had students complete a highly engaging Kahoot math review. In a fourth grade classroom at Lieck ES, Amy Perez and Emma Lenz had their students work in a small independent group as they used the ActivPanel to access various websites to practice problem-solving skills. Excitement and willingness to try something new builds each time students interact with the ActivPanel!
