Secondary PE teachers were treated to a “un-beat-able” work out and a preview of a new module available to all secondary campuses during in-service staff development.

Across all grade levels, students at McAndrew ES spoke to students in the grade below them giving them tips and words of wisdom for how to be successful in the next grade level.

Janiver Ntegereje, a student at Rudder MS, was riding his bike to school when he was struck by a car. Luckily, he was not seriously injured but the frame of his bike was cracked and the front tired completely destroyed.

A group of fifth grade students at Martin ES who aspire to be architects, engineers, and designers some day formed a “Design Club” this year. As a final gift to the school, the students designed two small libraries. Librarian Monica Sanchez and 5th grade Bilingual teacher Marianna Urrutia worked with the students through the months of April and May to build the “Little Free Libraries.”

December 18, 2015

Students at Scarborough ES demonstrated the Pillar of Caring when they donated 11,940 pounds of food to the San Antonio Food Bank. Their donation put them at the top of donations from elementary schools in the city. They were presented a check for $250 by the San Antonio Federal Credit Union (SSFCU) for being the top giving elementary school. The school then donated the check back to the San Antonio Food Bank.

Students from the Jay Science and Engineering Academy visited The University of Texas at San Antonio Medical and Allied Professions and explored the many careers available in health care.

The sixth grade advisory classes at Bernal MS submitted proposals for conducting a December Community Service Project. Four advisories submitted a proposal for holding a canned food and clothing drive.

Fourth grade students in Rachel Olivarri’s class sold enough Deanan’s popcorn during a fundraiser to earn a pizza party.

There was a musical family affair at Folks Middle School recently. Daniel Shui, orchestra director at Folks Middle School, arranged for the orchestra from Memorial High School in Houston (Spring Branch ISD), led by Shui's father to join the Stallion orchestra. Each orchestra played for each other and also played together.

Two savy and energy-conscience custodians were on the job to ensure that maintenance issues at their school were handled properly and quickly, thus saving the District both downtime of equipment and money.
