SPECIAL EDUCATION SUMMER PROGRAMS
NISD currently has summer programs that are available to students with special education support that meet eligibility requirements.
The summer Student Success Initiative (SSI) elementary program, provides summer intervention to 5th grade special education students who did not meet standard on the first two administrations of the reading or math STAAR or STAAR Online. Additionally, the elementary summer school program provides opportunity for remediation for K-4 students who have been retained and first grade students recommended to be placed into second grade. The summer Student Success Initiative (SSI) middle school program provides summer interventions for 8th grade special education students who did not meet standard on the first two administrations of the reading and math portions of the STAAR or STAAR Online. Additionally the summer school program provides opportunity for remediation to any student who failed 2 or 3 core academic courses and has been retained. Click here for additional SSI information. Under TEC §39.025 (b-1) a school district is required to provide accelerated instruction to each student who fails to perform satisfactorily on an EOC assessment. Each high school will provide accelerated instruction and credit retrieval opportunities for students that meet eligibility. Click here for additional details.
