As part of his duties as an Instructional Assistant in Community Training at the Northside Vocational Transition Program, Ben Trevino took a group of students to the Volunteer Services at the VA Hospital. When he entered, he noticed one of the employees trying to perform the Heimlich maneuver on someone who was choking, but due to her arthritis she was not being effective. He immediately stepped in and was able to dislodge a small almond from the person's throat. It is for this unpretentious, selfless act that Ben Trevino was presented the prestigious Northside Citizenship Award.
