July 26, 2017

For the last 21 years, the San Antonio Deaf Dance Company has provided deaf and hard of hearing students from the San Antonio area with an outlet to express themselves through dance. The Company is will hold a public performance Friday, July 28 at 7 p.m. in the Marshall High School Auditorium, 8000 Lobo Lane. Admission is free but donations are accepted.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: appointed several campus administrators; approved renewal of UnitedHealthcare as the District’s medical insurance provider for 2018; and received the annual report from the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC).

It is time for families to start updating their children’s immunizations in order to be prepared for the first day of school on August 28. Some students may not have the requisite number of shots and not know it due to the state increasing the number of shots required at various grade levels.

Northside ISD is holding an Auxiliary Job Fair to fill almost 300 positions for bus drivers, food service workers, food service manager trainees, police officers, custodians, and maintenance workers. The Job Fair will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, July 14 at the Northside Activity Center, 7001 Culebra Road.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: presented the Northside Citizenship Award to a life-saving O’Connor HS graduate; approved a Growth & Improvement Budget for 2017-2018; signed a Code of Ethics, reaffirming their commitment to adhere to ethical and educational standards; and appointed several campus administrators, including a new principal for Taft HS.

The Rising Stars Theatre Camp is presenting The Wizard of Oz in a free public performance on Tuesday, June 27 at 2 p.m. in the Stevens High School auditorium, 600 N Ellison Drive.

Northside will be moving to a new gradebook at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year and along with this comes a new parent/guardian portal called the Home Access Center (HAC).  The HAC will be replacing the existing gradebook found on Parent Connection.

To comply with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, Northside ISD will once again offer free meals to children starting June 5. This year, free meals are available at 18 schools for children who are 18 years or younger.

More than 6,700 seniors will don caps and gowns and collect their diplomas at one of 12 commencements being held for all Northside ISD high schools and the Reddix Center. The graduations will be streamed live on the Internet.
