To comply with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, Northside ISD will once again offer free meals to children starting June 8. This year, free meals are available at 17 schools for children who are 18 years or younger.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved the attendance zone for Harlan HS which opens in 2017, approved the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year, and appointed five new school principals.

Twenty years ago, at the first Solar Car Races, fewer than 30 students competed with their solar car creations in the parking lot of the Northside Activity Center. A Clark HS athlete is making strides with his shot put with the help of a special chair made just for him.  The new “throwing chair” was built by fellow students in teacher Mark Halloran’s welding class. Custom made chairs like this one usually carry a hefty price tag. The chair helps sophomore Samuel Derousse reach a height and comfort level needed to improve his game.

What started out as a class project for Holmes HS students enrolled in an auto collision repair class turned into a lesson about community service.  The students rebuilt a van, and then partnered with a non-profit agency to donate the vehicle to a family in need.
