Brandeis, Brennan, and Jay AFJROTC teams win national championships

Three Northside high school JROTC programs brought back national championships from the National High School Drill Team Championships and Fitness Challenge in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Silver Eagles Armed Drill Team from John Jay High School won their 13th Air Force National Championship and sixth National High School Drill Team Championship. The Silver Eagles Open Color Guard Silver Stallions won the Open Color Guard National Championship.

The Brandeis High School Blue Aces Unarmed Drill Team was crowned National High School Drill Team Masters Level Unarmed National Champions for the second year in a row. They were also the Air Force Unarmed National Champions.The Brandeis Physical Fitness Team also won the National Fitness Challenge in the Mixed Division.

The Brennan High School Spartan Bears won their third straight National Championship in the Male Division of the National Fitness Challenge.

Seven Northside high school ROTC programs took part in this year’s competition which pits the “best of the best” high school drill teams in the country from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force.

Brandeis High School AFJROTC

The Blue Aces Unarmed Drill Team was crowned National High School Drill Team Masters Level Unarmed National Champions for the second year in a row. They are the only Air Force unarmed team to win back to back championships in the unarmed category in the 37 year history of the event. They were also the Air Force Unarmed National Champions.

The Nighthawks Armed Drill Team were runner up Air Force National Champions and third in the National High School Drill Team Masters Level Armed Division.

The Praetorians physical training team, were National Champions in the Mixed Division of the National JROTC Fitness Challenge. They also placed first in seated power throw and third in the pull up/flexed arm hang events.

Brennan High School AFJROTC

For the third straight year, the Spartan Bears Physical Fitness team, commanded by Cadet Command Chief Michael Rohhon, won the National Championship in the Male Division of the Fitness Challenge. They placed first in the 3K team run and standing broad jump. They placed second in the physical fitness team test and pull-ups and third in the seated power throw.

The Phoenix Drill Team earned second place in the Armed Color Guard category.

Clark High School AFJROTC

Clark’s Unarmed Drill Team, Silver Valor, was National Runner Up Champions, earning second overall in the Masters Level competition.

Cadet Colonel Blue Skyy Mosqueda was named the Best Unarmed Drill Team Commander in the Nation. The team earned second place in Team Inspection, second place in Flight Regulation, second place in Flight Exhibition, fourth place in Team Element Exhibition, and eighth place in Team Color Guard.

The Silver Wings Open Level Color Guard earned third place overall, their highest finish in Clark High School history.

The Clark Physical Fitness Team finished as the National Runner Up Champions in the Mixed Division.

Jay HS AFJROTC

The Silver Eagles Armed Drill Team won their sixth National High School Drill Team Championship and 13th Air Force National Championship. The Silver Eagles Open Color Guard Silver Stallions won the Open Color Guard National Championship.

The Silver Eagles Dual Exhibition Team of Danielle Gonzalez and Jesse Barrientos placed second.

The Silver Eagles placed first in squad exhibition, first in platoon exhibition, second in inspection, second in regulation drill, and third in color guard.

The Marching Mustangs Armed Drill Team finished second in Demilitarized Mixed/Alternative Arms Division which is part of the Masters Level competition. The Marching Mustangs are comprised of both males and females who are mostly freshmen and sophomores. The team earned first place in squad exhibition, second place in regulation drill, second place in platoon exhibition, second place in color guard, and third place arms inspection. Daniel Ruiz earned the third place Commanders Award. Abigail Garcia and Lilliana Ramirez were named National Champions in Mixed Dual Exhibition.

The Snap II Unarmed Drill Team competed in the Unarmed Masters Level competition placing fourth overall. They placed first in unarmed Color Guard, third in unarmed inspection, third in unarmed flight exhibition and fourth in unarmed regulation. Lara Odaliz earned 2nd place Commanders trophy.

The Blue Knights Open Color Guard Team finished fifth in the Challenge Level Open Color Guard competition.

The Sentinels Physical Fitness Team placed fourth overall in the Mixed Division of the Fitness Challenge.

O’Connor High School AFJROTC

O’Connor High School’s Unarmed Drill Team, the Mighty Panthers, placed fifth overall in the Masters Level Unarmed Drill competition. They earned fourth place in Inspection and first place in Regulation.

The Physical Fitness Team placed third in the standing broad jump and fourth place in the obstacle course.

Taft High School AFJROTC

Taft High School brought home seven trophies from Daytona competition. The Taft Sky Raiders Armed Drill team were National Runner-Up in the Challenge Level competition.  They also placed third in regulation drill, second in Color Guard, and first place in Inspection. The Scarlet Raiders Unarmed Drill Team earned fifth place in Inspection, fifth place in Regulation Drill, and fourth place in Exhibition Drill.

Warren High School AFJROTC

The Earl Warren Silver Saints Unarmed Drill Team made a great first impression during their first visit to Daytona. In the Challenge division, the team commanded by Cadet Colonel Christine Ledezma, took fifth place in Exhibition, fourth place in Inspection, third place in Regulation, first place in Color Guard (Commanded by Cadet Major Klarissa Hernandez), and third place overall.
