Over the weekend, more than 30 Northside Special Olympics athletes competed at the Special Olympics State Summer Games held at Heroes Stadium.
It was the first time in more than 20 years that NISD had athletes participate in the Summer Games, and the first time the Games were held in San Antonio.
Northside student athletes brought home multiple awards in the 50-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 25-meter wheelchair race, softball throw, mini javelin, running long jump, and the standing long jump.
“These athletes represented the district with amazing pride, courage, and sportsmanship during the event,” said Donna Umhoefer, lead specialist for NISD Adapted Physical Education/Special Olympics. “We couldn’t be more proud!”
