Around 106,000 students and 7,600 teachers headed back to the classroom when 120 schools reopened on Monday. Joining the District is Dr. Linda G. Mora Elementary School, the 79th elementary school in NISD.

The new school is named after Dr. Linda G. Mora who served as Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in NISD from 2002 to 2016.

Before coming to NISD, Dr. Mora served as a teacher, Curriculum Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction at United ISD in Laredo. She also served as Associate Commissioner of Accountability and Accreditation at the Texas Education Agency, and Director of Statewide Initiatives at Region XIII ESC in Austin.

“This is Northside” takes a look at first day school festivities, complete with a mariachi band, school mascot, school namesake and principal welcoming students as they walked through the doors of the brand new school for the first time.

Funded from the 2014 Bond, Mora Elementary School was built to relieve overcrowding at Behlau Elementary School and provide capacity for future growth at Lieck Elementary School.

The dedication ceremony for Mara Elementary will be held on Monday, Oct. 29.
